Sustainability

Finally, a sustainable alternative to the huge pollution problem of plastic and aluminium coffee capsules.

The responsible disposal of used coffee capsules is a growing problem and these ground-breaking capsules provide a solution as they break down into simple raw materials in a domestic compost heap in a matter of weeks, directly addressing the problem of waste plastic and aluminium from coffee capsules ending in landfill. This new technology means that you no longer need to peel off the foil, empty the coffee and sort the components into separate recycling bins. The WWF capsules can just be added to your composting bin, compost heap or food recycling bin.

Given the sheer volume of capsules consumed everyday it’s important to consider the impact they can have on our environment. During the production process of our WWF capsules, particular importance is placed on manufacturing in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. The main raw materials used are starch, glucose, vegetable fibers, inorganic filler materials, and biodegradable additives. This makes our WWF capsules entirely GMO, gluten-free and vegan.

By using renewable raw materials and energy from wind, sun, hydropower, and biogas in its production and offsetting greenhouse gas emissions, the capsule attained ClimatePartner certification back in 2019. This certification affirms our coffee capsules are climate-neutral which sends out an important message to all our customers.

Even the packaging is made from 100% recyclable card, printed using water-based inks and organic pigments. This means that 100% of the entire product is compostable or recyclable!
